TOP Seafood has built its reputation on the long experience and good will of its founding partners, Othar Hansson, Phil Nelson and Tom
Vasile, who established the company in 1993. They brought in-depth knowledge of the United States fisheries as well as those of Europe and South
America. With the departure of several founders, TOP has now partnered with the importing firm Tigertraders, managed by Thorsteinn Gislason who brings a rich background in trading with Eastern Europe and also the experience of a decade long stint as an officer of the former Coldwater Seafood Corporation.
From the
beginning the company has worked hard to supply Restaurant
Chains and Retail Outlets who buy on a program basis. We also strive to meet the needs of our Distributor and Wholesaler clients.
We put in extra effort to cooperate with our producers, so that they can better understand the needs of our end user. This has allowed us to build up mutually
beneficial relationships with both producers and customers. Our program includes periodic plant visits, which help to ensure
compliance with our HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points)
plan.
TOP's focus has been Groundfish from the North Atlantic and the Pacific in addition to Whiting Fillet Products and Whiting
Blocks from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. We are a marketer of domestically sourced Red Crab. In recent years we have expanded our offerings with the addition of freshwater Perch and Pike Perch fillets from Eastern
Europe. We also offer other specialized freshwater Perch varieties, which enhance our ability to support long term continuous seafood program sales. We source our products from Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Turkey, Estonia and Lithuania. We market our products under the Toppskip Brand label and the Frosty Pack label.
Under the Toppskip Brand label, we also offer I.Q.F. skinless fillets of Cardinal Perch that is caught in the deep waters off the coast of Chile. Cardinal Perch has been popular as an excellent and cost effective alternative to Ocean Perch fillets. |
